March 2018 Newsletter

Do you remember the stone path in an article in the March 2012 newsletter? Look it up.
It still applies today in March 2018 as it did in 2012.

The stone path has grown from five stones to many stones and has been moved to the outside boundary to have enough space. It is a great way to honor contributions to education.

Help us continue to provide quality education where it is needed most. We will build a new path to the secondary school (high school) with your stone and a substantial gift of $1,000 or more for construction of the school.

The amount needed for the new high school for more than 700 students is very high ñ US$300,000. No one church and most individuals cannot afford such a gift, but if all could give what they can afford, it would be a big help in reaching our goal of providing quality education to the vulnerable children in Rwanda.

Give from your heart. Help to build the future.

Mama

Never again

April is the month dedicated to remembering the genocide of 1994.

Pray for continued peace in Rwanda and wherever persecution, heartache and strife exist.

We come together in love to make it a HOPE MADE REAL.

Beautiful country.

Beautiful people from many walks of life come together in unity and love at Urukundo.

On the lighter side

Barber does house calls. You are brave, Amy.
Volunteer Amy Dove meets the barber. I would say she has a new hairdo, but I think it is just a cut. It keeps her hair out of her eyes.

Newest graduate

Giselle, our latest graduate from secondary school, will start University of Tourism, Technology and Business in May. Congratulations, Giselle!

This will give us 13 attending university. I am so grateful to all sponsors and those who donate for higher education. Without you, this would not be possible.

No washer and dryer

Volunteer Angelique from Germany does her washing in the backyard.
That is laundry at Urukundo.

Special visitor

Gertrude Mupfasoni, a member of the Urukundo Board of Directors, visited Urukundo Village.
Orange is not my best color.
So you know, Iím the short one with the gray hair.

Child of the month

Kenny and Kenilla.

OK, so it should read ìchildren.î However, these two are one special package. They are twins.

Kenny and Kenilla were sent to Urukundo Home by family and Gender Exc Sec Gerard Ndatsikira and were accompanied by their grandfather, Kayitare Gaeton. After giving birth, their mother abandoned the children, leaving them with the grandfather.
Their grandfather is in poor health and confined to a wheelchair. He tried his best but could not care for them as they grew older. The social worker in the area brought them to Urukundo.

Pastor Yves visits their grandfather.
We have watched them grow from babies to the P5 students they are today. Kenny and Kenilla are not identical, but there is a resemblance that says they are twins. They have totally different personalities. Kenny is the jokester. Kenilla is serious. Kenny is the student. Kenilla is the caregiver.
Both are a blessing to the Urukundo Home for Children.

Karate winners

Football is not our only sport. We are very proud of our karate team. The team went to its first competition. They were the winners.

We recognize their Master Eugene Iyamuremye. Eugene gives freely of his time every Saturday morning to train the team. Eugene also is doing a good job as our farm manager.

We have many at Urukundo who wears many hats. Thank you, Eugene, for teaching karate at Urukundo along with your duties at the farm.

You are special.

Blessed events

All 38 of our women on staff, Mama and volunteer Amy honored Betty, the mama in charge at the boys house, with a bridal shower. It was the first event of its kind at Urukundo. Her wedding will take place March 31. The Urukundo kids and mama are invited and will attend. Pictures will be in April's newsletter.
Executive Director Jean Marie, his wife Larissa and new big sister Lana welcome a new baby girl into their world.
