Ruthie is a return visitor and expects to come every year as long as God is in charge of her travels. Ruthie is a singer and teacher and had several DVD's out. She gave us some for our enjoyment. She has a beautiful voice. She is also a craft person and very creative. Her visit was for 3 days much too short. Thank you for coming Ruthie.

Visitors for July, 2009

Cortney Bower from Saint Johns/Newberry, Williamsport Pa. (my home church) a second year nursing student spent a month helping out at the clinic. Cortney, Brittney(a two month visitor) and Bridget (pictured below) did an inventory of all new medicines and spent time sorting Band Aids and placing them in boxes to make life easier for me. She helped serving meals, reading to and with the kids and playing Volley Ball until the poles broke and basket ball. She can pump up a basket ball without breaking the needle. Sounds simple but believe me it is not. I enjoyed Cortney’s visit very much.



Bridget Campbell from Liberty Bible Church, Liberty, Pa joined us for two weeks. Helping in the clinic, teaching English to the kids, and helping where ever she was needed. She and Cortney worked as a team while they were here. I learned about a sugar bandage from Bridget. It really works.

A New Tradition of Trees

It started with Betty Brown from Bloomsburg who asked could she plant a tree. Then my grandson Tim also planted a tree. Because we need the trees and want to have a growing testimony of volunteers who have honored us by coming and working in the village, a tree is planted in their name.

Team Visit

We welcomed our second team from Wesley UMC in Bloomsburg, Pa. Some members of the first team in 2008 returned and were startled by the progress made in little over a year..
This team consisted of 3 adults and 6 young people. Their Building project was to help construct a protecting wall for the soccer field. They did camp projects crafts, games and a music camp for the kids. They leave July 2nd. The kids and I will hate to see them go.
Included in this team was Ed Keller the International Board President of Hope Made Real and his wife Lisa and sons Nathan and Nicholas. We were honored by their visit.





While leading a mission team to Urukundo Home for Children in Rwanda Africa, DR Ed Keller presented Mama Arlene with the Bishop Frederick Wertz award for outstanding service in the faith. This award is presented each year to one person by Lycoming College, Williamsport, Pa. The award was presented to Dr Patricia Brown in the absence of her mother at the Central Pa annual conference of the United Methodist Church.

This choir needs a name. Suggestions requested.

Meet Molly Treynor

Molly Treynor from Maumee, Ohio arrived in early January. Molly is a retired University Professor. Specializing in Counseling. Her commitment was to work as long-term volunteer and that has not changed. She has been with us for four months and she is now a part of the Urukundo Family. Our kids love Molly and her teasing and fun ways. She says that her first love was Baby David as he was part of the reason she decided to come back and work when she first visited the village as a delegate with People to People. She now is dedicated to all four babies. David, Laki, Claudine and John. She plans to be an ambassador for Urukundo Kids back home in Ohio.  She hates leaving them but admits she is homesick.  We will miss her a lot and look forward to her return.Safe travel Molly.

Visitors for March, 2009

Our visitors this month came from Canada, USA, England,  and Germany.  I forgot my camera worked even though the computer did not, so I did not take pictures.

Sarah Ketchly from Seattle and her son Tom Wilson from the UK and US arrived with shoes from their daughter's brownie troup in Seattle and soccor shirts and shoes and were the hit of the month.

During the time of the flu invasion, we were blessed with two first aid people from Canada, Brittney Merryweather and Kathleen Fleming, and an RN from Colorado, Karen Klein.

Visitors for February, 2009

Molly Treynor  from Maumee, Ohio has come on and extended mission trip.

Kathleen Fleming from Vancouver British Columbia arrived for a 3 month stay. Kathleen and her friends in Canada presented Urukundo with money needed to construct a waterline for our village.  That water line is in place. Thank you Kathleen and friends.

Brittney Merryweather also from Vancouver spent a month getting to know Urukundo and has now moved to Kigali where she is working with a school getting even more experience for her future goals.

New Soccer Uniforms

Our kids were blessed with their very own uniforms for soccer.  Sarah and her son Tom from Seattle came to work and deliver uniforms and shoes to our kids.

A delegation from People to People

We were visited by a delegation out of Canada from People to People on December 1st, getting our month off to a great start.

Adrian Shultz

A world biker from Germany stopped and spent three days at Urukundo before continuing his journey South. Adrian started his world trip 8 months ago in his home land Germany and will continue on into North America, Mexico, on to Australia and heading home. I am not sure how all that works. His bike is his transportation. Our boys were very impressed.

Nox Ntuli

Noxi is a young lawyer from South Africa. She came to work at Urukundo over her Christmas break from her office. We were so grateful for her help while she was with us.
