Tina Pennington from North Carolina volunteered at Urukundo Foundation on Aug. 15, 2015. Her organization at that time was Raised Hands for Africa.
Tina went home to establish a worthy, much-needed organization in North Carolina. She is founder and executive director of Beloved Haven, Inc. The group strives to empower survivors of human trafficking and exploitation.
Well done, Tina. We are proud to include you in our Urukundo family.
When Tina volunteered at Urukundo, she helped create a playground for Urukundo’s kids.
Raised Hands for Africa supplied funding for swings, a merry-go-round and a slide.
Overview of the play area
Play area at recess time
From that beginning, the play area has developed into not only a playground but a sports compound for the Urukundo Learning Center. Courts for basketball and volleyball were added to the original play area.
There also is a football (soccer) field.
More of the mountain is needed to make the football field reach legal measurements for intermural school competitions.
Karate team at practice. Yes, it is a sport at the Urukundo Learning Center.
